About The Chakras
The ideologies of the 7 Chakras have been around for centuries, and the depth of wisdom surrounding them is immense. The teachings encompass many facets of human existence. It could take a lifetime to fully investigate and understand every component. I am by no means an expert in this field, but what I would like to share, is how I have been inspired by the Chakras as an artist.
The most basic understanding of the chakras, is that they are energy centers along the spine of the human body that correlate to different physical, psychological, and spiritual states. They serve as our connection to the energy and frequencies that surround us. I have long subscribed to the concept that everything in the universe is composed from the same energy. We are all sharing vibrations, and it’s how we tap into them that helps guide our path through life.
Another major component of the chakras is balance. When these energy centers are balanced and open, we are better suited to handle stress, accept change and growth, and ultimately achieve a higher state of consciousness, becoming the best version of ourselves ~ living our best lives.
Balance is something I have always felt a strong connection to. Physically, in board sports and yoga, and spiritually in my artwork and life in general. I focus heavily on balance regarding composition and symmetry - and also within color pallets. When things are balanced, they are stable, and most able to achieve their fullest expression.
Each of the chakras align with different aspects of this mind body connection to the universe. Each has a specific shape, color, and imagery. These associations can vary widely across different religions and teachings. I’ll admit, I have taken some generous artistic liberty in my depictions for each of these, but in the end, I feel the collection is powerful, balanced, and energetic. I have learned a lot in my research for this project, and I through the process, I feel a deeper connection to the chakras in my life. It’s my hope that you might feel it too, much love!

The root chakra is located at the base of the spine. It serves as our connection with the earth, and is the foundation for entire charka system. Its energy provides a sense of stability and security. When the root chakra is balanced we are able to feel courageous, and open to growth. Grounded like an elephant.
The sacral chakra is located just below the belly button. Its focus is upon our sexual and creative energy. It’s also responsible for our stability in relationships, and our sense of connection to others. When our emotions are balanced, we are able to feel passion, which is a primary fuel for creative energy. Playful like the Koi.
The solar plexus chakra is located in the core near the stomach. This chakra is related to our personality and self-esteem. When its energy is balanced, we feel responsible and empowered. Our identity is strengthened and our willpower enables us to meet challenges and move forward with confidence. Resolved like the ram.
The heart chakra is located in the center of the chest near the heart. It supports our feelings of love, warmth, and compassion. When we feel love, we can act through kindness and be grateful for this life we all share. It can help us realize that we all contribute to something larger. Peaceful like a kudu.
The throat chakra is located within the throat. It is responsible not only for our verbal communication, but also supports our sense of originality and the ability to be open and honest. When the throat chakra is balanced, we feel confident in being authentic and speaking our truth - which leads to increased personal integrity and honor. Virtuous like a lion.
The third eye chakra is located in the center of the forehead. It acts as our source of intuition and imagination. When our 3rd eye chakra is open, we are able to see ourselves and the world around us more clearly. With a sharp 3rd eye, we can cut through fabricated illusions. If we shift our perspective beyond the physical plane, we can access deeper truths. Focused like an eagle.
The crown chakra is located at the top of the head. It represents our connection between the physical and spiritual realms. When this chakra is balanced, we are able to form a stronger connection with the universe ~ feeling the universal vibrations and developing a deeper meaning of life. It helps us to dissolve our ego, and liberate the spirit, allowing us to live with gratitude and trust… open to receiving a higher state of consciousness. Blooming like a lotus.
